Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 Dissection

This dissection was started because I like making my own cases for webcams and building stereo vision mounts, and I also wanted to see if it was possible to replace the autofocus with a system that works with a telephoto lens.





Here is a closeup of how the camera mounts on the Nerf™ Tactical Rail Adapter.















The motor has some nice magnets in it.





This photo should be a little clearer as to how the cover clips on.







More photos after I get some sharper screwdrivers and open the autofocus cover. Then I will be able to check that the motor is easily controllable.

Fortunately, I don't have to put it back together since I am planning on building a new mounting system for it, probably a stereo vision setup. Unless I can get the telephoto lens to work.

Still working on the CAD models. Should be finished with the new version of this tonight or tomorrow. Then I am going to work on the high res version.

Nice dissection :-). I'm also making a stereovision mount for the same camera. I was more conservative and planned to install it with the original case but your way is better. Would you please send me dimensions (positions of the holes for the screws, dims of the camera cube etc.?) It would save me some measuring and possible errors. I can also open a CAD model. Thanks

There is a 5th cable in the USB cable (thick black) which is connect to the panel. Is it disconnectable? Which is his role? Unfortunately I need the camera without his "box", but I can't get rid of it (Of course I don't want break it).

Please help me!

That cable is the shielding ground you can remove it by desoldering with a solder sucker or solder wick.

It may be easier to make a big blob of solder on one side, heat that and pull the wire loose from the other side. If this is not clear I can make a video in a week when I disassemble more of these cameras.
